Howdy,

Here is my test file along with the log and pdf (no problem). I've run it without problems in both TL-2010 pretest and TL-2009.

You should open the file in UTF-8 encoding (although there is nothing in the file that should make any difference)---that will happen automatically if you use TeXShop.
