Is it that you don't believe (t)csh loads ~/.login? You can proof that  
by putting the line

	echo "Hi, it's me, your ~/.login file!"

Of course it will only this file when it starts running as a login  
shell. Otherwise it will inherit the unchanged environment of the  
process which started the shell. When this environment is OK (and in  
Mac OS X ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist can provide this agreeable state)  
then no ~/.(t)chsrc is needed.
