Howdy,

Does word.eps have an embedded bitmap image? It looks like dvips is  
not finding something it expects at the end of a bitmap image. How was  
the eps file produced?

Does the final pdf look ok? Try dropping the word.eps file onto  
TeXShop or run epstopdf on the word.eps file in Terminal and look at  
the resulting word.pdf. Is that ok?
