[OS X TeX] Problem with TeX Live Utility

Which also explains why the repository keyword was not understood by  
old unchanged TL '09 tlmgr...

Does the PATH setting control the update scripts? The proper TL  
infrastructure update is some BLOB (actually tar.gz) inside the shell  
script, which also contains the runme.sh shell script. Which has at  
the end a help text to explain a possible failure. And this text  
cites "kpsewhich --var-value=SELFAUTOPARENT."

So my advise probably was very, very faulty! The first step needs to  
be a change of $PATH setting so that TL '09 is contained in it and  
not TL '08.
