Howdy,

If you have a file that is pure ascii (e.g., accented characters and  
symbols are set up with macros rather than typed in) it doesn't matter  
what encoding you save since ascii is a sub-set of UTF-8 and Latin 1.  
It is only the extensions that require knowledge of the encoding. Try  
a simple ascii file.
