Something I forgot, in case you're not familiar with hidden
directories: none of
/usr/local/texlive/texmf-local
/Library/TeX/Distributions/.DefaultTeX/Contents/TexmfLocal
can be accessed directly from the Finder, you need to use Go > Go to
Folder… (Cmd-Shift-G), enter for example /usr and then navigate to
local/texlive/texmf-local.
