When it's not the system, then your personal setup can be wrong.  
'kpsewhich psfonts.map' or, if still not found, '/usr/texbin/ 
kpsewhich psfonts.map' whether your private parts are used. Then you  
should run "updmap" instead of "sudo updmap-sys" with the same argument.

An 'export PATH=/usr/texbin:$PATH' should fix the PATH problem in  
*this* Terminal when bash is the login shell, a 'set path=(/usr/ 
texbin $path) ; rehash' should fix the PATH problem in *this*  
Terminal when tcsh is the login shell.


Which tool is producing the

	font futb8t not found in psfonts.map or host system

message? It's not pdfTeX, it would look into pdftex.map.
