Odd...that's exactly the command that's causing the error, but your  
output in Terminal is correct.  I'd like to sort this out and see if I  
can prevent the problem.

What is the output of `env`?

What is the output of `cat ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist`?

Do you have a teTeX install at /usr/local/teTeX?  I add /usr/texbin at  
the end of the path, but if your teTeX comes first, tlmgr could end up  
using its kpsewhich (for instance).
