Editing the same file through multiple open window must indeed be  
very useful but I don't quite see how this relate to opening "an  
other document in the second part of the window" unless you mean two  
"included" files in each part of a window. But then, other than  
screen space, what is the point of having them in two parts of the  
same window?

(I can't check because MS Word and I parted our ways a long time ago  
after it lost me a big chunk of a long document.)

Or perhaps I am completely beside the point.
