It's all mine – and I now see that I had faulty sym-links when I last
built the "package." It is just meant to make Fink think that TeX is
available. Whatever TeX related package I installed in Fink, it
worked and continues to work.

It's obvious that I need to clean up some sym-links and rebuild
system-tetex! Fink's system-tetex package was rebuilt a few times.
And building the package mostly involves creating sym-links. And if a
sym-link already exists, then it's not overwritten with the new one.
This can explain the scrap.
