As far as I can tell from your example this is the intended  
behaviour... More precisely, with the article class, the following  
snippet

\begin{enumerate}
	\item A
		\begin{itemize}
			\item aa
			\item bb
		\end{itemize}
		\item B
		\item C
\end{enumerate}

should produce (and does so on my MacTeX install) something like (I'm  
using a monospaced font)

1.  A
	• aa
	• bb
2.  B
3.  C

If there is a problem, then it does not stem from the program you are  
using but from the format/class you are using... The versions can be  
seen at the beginning of the log file. you would, for instance get:
