I speak for Beamer and for Tikz. I think that a good idea,
is to be to subscribe with the lists beamer and pgf.
There are relatively little messages but if a bug is discovered
  Tantau made the correction very quickly. It gives the solution
  so that one can correct manually, and if not it corrects the
files via cvs. A file in Tikz changes every month.

With TeX on Mac OS X, the other list important, is the pdftex list.
