[OS X TeX] Modification of the TOC

there is an \appendix command which, I believe, changes "chapter" to  
"appendix" and creates corresponding TOC entries.

I wish I could help more on this---I've always struggled just to get  
it close to what I want---I am pretty sure that this command is  
documented in a variety of places though.
