[OS X TeX] Auto launch of a vi window?

Dear Friends,

I must have installed something that opens a small VI window in  
TeXShop whenever I hit a back quote. Indeed I couldn't type it in  
this mail.app window because the backquote must be hijacked by some  
hidden app. Does anyone have a hunch as to what I may have installed  
and how to uninstall it?
