Your TeX install seems to be the deprecated teTeX-based gwTeX i- 
Package. With a recent install, namely the current TeXLive-based  
gwTeX i-Package, you should just use, instead of the above (whether  
you're on PowerPC or Intel processor):

/usr/texbin/pdflatex

NewPackages.html>. For example:

<http://www.tug.org/~koch/gwTeX.dmg> would provide the same  
functionality as teTeX, using Gerben Wierda's new gwTeX distribution

<http://www.tug.org/~koch/TeXLiveMTS-2006.dmg> would provide the same  
functionality as teTeX, using TUG's TeXLive distribution
