[OS X TeX] MacTeX Packages

Started to send this a few hours ago, but have since resolved the
problems. I decided to send it anyway, in case others encounter these
problems.

I just downloaded TeXLiveMTS-2006 and installed it. Changed the
preferences in TeXShop, LaTeXiT, and BibTeX as directed. I have been
using TeXLive-2005 for the past couple of months without trouble on
MacBookPro (10.4.8).

The first document that I tried failed with 'xymtex.sty' not found.
This is the standard chemical diagram package. It was in
TeXLive-2005, but does not appear to be in TeXLive-2006.

Resolved by finding the 'xymtex' folder at /usr/local/texlive2005/
texmf-dist/tex/latex/xymtex/ and moving it to /Users/trike/Library/
texmf/tex/latex/

The next document I tried used was a XeTeXexample using fontspec
package, which seemed to work, but all of the /verb lines typeset as
gibberish.

Resolved when I discovered that the line in the preamble setting the
monofont was missing. After adding a line \setmonofont{Courier} to
the preamble the problem disappeared.

My third attempt was an example using 'arcs.sty' package which also
could not be found. It was in TeXLive-2005. Is this because I
downloaded the TeXLiveMTS-2006 and not TeXlive-2006 (unmodified)? I
didn't understand the "download patience" comment, but took the
MacTeX scheme because I have been using MacTeX since it became
available. Is there a listing of the packages that are no longer a
part of TeXLive-2006?

Resolved by finding the 'arcs' folder at /usr/local/texlive2005/
texmf-dist/tex/latex/arcs/ and moving it to /Users/trike/Library/
texmf/tex/latex/

All other files that I have tested typeset without problems. Since I
usually have problems with new installations, I have to say that this
went pretty smoothly. I will keep TeXLive-2005, so that I can raid it
in the future as packages that I need turn up. Thanks to everyone
involved with this project.

Happy New Year, Tom Rike
