Right, but often databases offer export to one of the formats I  
mentioned (I mainly use Compendex and ScienceDirect, which export to  
RIS).

Indeed...SourceForge just let me know about it.

ISTR you know something about networking and OS X, so we await your  
patch with bated breath :).

PubMed actually has an API for third-party software queries.  If the  
databases you mention have something similar, it might be possible to  
add support.  If someone (not me) has time to investigate that, it  
would be helpful.
