Not quite. TextEditor won't do it, it will allow you (after prompting  
for an admin password) to open and edit the file, but won't save it.  
"sudo open -e /etc/profile" won't work any better. Until then I  
always used "sudo pico /etc/profile". Thanks for pointing out BBEdit  
works for this too.
