The document, report class, is in German and has

	\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
	\usepackage[latin9]{inputenc}
	\usepackage[ngerman]{babel}
	\usepackage{textcomp}

I can put before \begin{document} the statement \renewcommand
{\figurename}{Bild} either as second line or after babel is loaded or
anywhere else and the figures are still called 'Abbildung.' The re-
naming only works in conjunction with \AtBeginDocument -- or I am
making some silly mistake! \renewcommand{\figurename}{Bild} inside
the document environment works though ...

	Running `LaTeX' on `FaZu0501' with ``pdflatex  "\nonstopmode\input
{FaZu0501.tex}"''
	This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.30.4-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5)
	entering extended mode
	LaTeX2e <2005/12/01>
	Babel <v3.8d> and hyphenation patterns for british, french, german,
ngerman, no
	hyphenation, loaded.
