Howdy,

Don't know an editor but if he doesn't mind cut & paste may TeX FoG  
<http://homepage.mac.com/marco_coisson/MacOSXsoftware.html> might  
help. All in all it would be better to learn a bit and then use  
completions/abbreviations in TeXShop than hunt and peck. Hmmm... I  
think MathType (commercial) can produce TeX formatted equations but I  
have no idea how well it does.
