Unfortunately, no. I should have been a little more careful in
pointing out (potential) differences - I just meant I have the same
error message, involving a regular jpeg file though:

A command like

>> identify 10.jpg

replies

>> identify: no decode delegate for this image format `10.jpg'.

and similarly

>> convert -verbose 10.jpg

complains

>> convert: missing an image filename `10.jpg'.

Moreover, I have both gs-X11 and gs-noX11 installed (and in the
path), which gs as a link to gs-noX11:

lrwxr-xr-x 1 root staff 8 Jul 19 16:01 /usr/local/bin/gs@ -
 > gs-noX11
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 6224112 Feb 6 13:36 /usr/local/bin/gs-X11*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 6110324 Feb 6 13:36 /usr/local/bin/gs-
noX11*

so I suspect the error of that Kyle saw might be independent of this
as well.

(I haven't tried installing X11 yet, since I don't have the installer
DVD on me and the Apple provided download didn't seem to work.)

Cheers,
Jan
