[OS X TeX] Quitting *Tex from the command line

Hello,
Just a quick question about command line Tex:
If I type "latex" in a terminal window without any
options or file names, I get a welcome message and a
prompt. If I type anything Tex says that it can't
find the file and to type another file name. How do I
break this vicious cycle and exit tex? Just typing
exit, quit, or even CTRL-Z or CTRL-C don't work and I
have to close the window and reopen. Surely there's a
better way.

Thanks
