[OS X TeX] no file type lco

I assume you are referring to the File Format in the save window of  
TexShop. If you choose the File Format to be Plain Text, you can add  
to the file name any extension you like.  The funny thing, though, is  
that my Mac thinks that text files saved in texshop are applescripts...
