Agreed!

Given Apple has modified in Tiger (or was it Panther?) the Unix file  
manipulation utilities such as cp, mv etc. such that they understand  
the specificities of the Mac file system (ie, they handle both  
resource and data forks), maybe at some point they will also make it  
so that the Unix underpinnings of OS X handle aliases as well as  
symlinks. Or does it mean for TeX that kpathsea would need to be  
modified?
