You guessed right: I haven't read your .emacs file, but the salvation 
is pager.el. This file is part of Enhanced Carbon Emacs and Aquamacs 
Emacs too. If you can't find anywhere I can send you privately a copy 
from Aquamacs.

The reason C-v/M-v did not work then in ECE times is that M-v or Cmd-v 
is paste in Mac OS.
