#2 won't work with a sym-link, because an application would first need
to visit the strange outside location.
The reason is that Rowland McDonnell does not want to install teTeX on
his system volume. Think of space restrictions, think of teTeX not
being proper Mac OS X (as OzTeX or CMacTeX) or Apple system software,
not being Classic/Mac OS 9 ...
