I just dropped the file

sig-alternate.cls

into the directory

/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/tex/latex/

but when I try to run LaTeX on my document I get

> This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.30.4-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5)
> \write18 enabled.
> entering extended mode

Any ideas what's going wrong? Everything seems OK, and I am fairly
sure this has worked in the past for other files...

Best wishes
