I use the autocomplete feature of BibDesk in TeXShop all the time. I
love it, and I'd be very lost without it. Although, I did notice that
the completion seems to have changed recently - previously it only
completed on the key, and now it seems to complete on any author,
which still throws me a bit (when I type 'ress<F5>' I don't really
expect it to be completed with 'douglas92'). However, I'm sure it's
actually more useful to more people this way, so I'll get used to it
eventually.

Many thanks to the three BibDesk Devs!
