In that case, perhaps you'd better use Find All which will open a 
drawer showing Found strings. Then you can apply Replace selectively. 
Unfortunately you cannot select multiple items in that drawer by 
cmd-click or shift-click, though.

As to the highlight colour, it is so-to-say hierarchical. Maybe useful 
in some situations. Try for example Find (\w)(\w*)(dy) in regex mode.
