why not just use \framebox as in


(i)  \put(200,285){\framebox{\blue $\alpha$}}

or

(ii)

\color{blue}
\put(200,285){\framebox{$\alpha$}}

The difference between (i) and (ii) being that the second puts the 
box also in blue, while the first puts a blue alpha inside a black 
box.
