There is a message from Macintouch of interest to the current
discussion of Expressionist and Pages:

To Jeff Holcomb, who complains about the shortcomings of MathType.
Please give LaTeX Equation editor a spin. It's free, and you really
don't have to learn the whole of LaTeX to use it, just the part about
mathematics ;-)

There are a lot of tutorials and resources on-line, or you can
reference chapter 5 of the excellent book by Kopka and Daly, "A guide
to LaTeX" [$43.12 @ Amazon].

It's really not hard, and soon you will be writing equations faster
than in any other method (and your mathematical typesetting will be
much improved!). I write a lot of equations and I couldn't be happier
with it. There is also an application called TeX FoG to help you
generate the LaTeX commands and symbols.
