In case you're still willing to use ImageMagick directly: follow this 
link <file:///usr/local/share/ImageMagick-6.1.7/index.html> or 
<file:///usr/local/share/ImageMagick/ImageMagick.html> (depending on 
which version you've got on disk). In particular, the syntax of the 
various command-line tools composing the ImageMagick suite is described 
at <file:///usr/local/share/ImageMagick-6.1.7/www/ImageMagick.html>. 
"convert" is likely to be what you're looking for.
