[OS X TeX] Underscore?

I'm getting odd behavior from \_ in some body text. The characters that 
follow it on the same line are shifted upward when compared to the 
earlier characters on the line. I have to use an underscore because I'm 
referencing a website with an underscore in its address. Has anyone 
else encountered this?
