The TeX i-Package (in the experimental i-Directory) has been updated
and should now handle XeTeX ok. With this package, XeTeX needs not add
OTFFONTS or TEXINPUTS.xetex etc. though it should be best for the
installer to check if each variable is set and if no add it.

TEXINPUTS.xelatex = .;$TEXMF/{xetex,tex}/{latex,generic,}//
TEXINPUTS.xetex   = .;$TEXMF/{xetex,tex}/{plain,generic,}//
OTFFONTS = .;$TEXMF/fonts/otf/{xetex,}//

With this, the work should be done and the new packages could lose
experimental status. I will wait a few days for any problems to crop
up.
