Gerben announced a "special experimental i-Directory" on October 3 on 
the ii2-announce list. He stated:

I am not sure he wants the whole list to know about this, so I won't 
say anything more about it (though it isn't hard to find if you know 
where to look).

Given your query, I expect he will be posting something to this list 
giving us all an update.
