I did, though I didn't undo my changes in the local texmf tree. A 
second run just gives me

using config file /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/web2c/updmap.cfg
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/web2c/updmap.cfg unchanged. Map 
files not recreated.

Seems that updmap.cfg already knows about the first run.
