This may well be the case; however, we ran across a problem with 
BibDesk <http://bibdesk.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/BibDeskTips>.  
One of the developers had set BIBINPUTS in his environment.plist, and 
it took him a long time to figure out why BibDesk wasn't displaying TeX 
previews.  Troubleshooting this kind of stuff is non-trivial, 
especially via e-mail.
