The memoir class (and its manual) is the winner for me.
The hyperref, amsmath, dcolumn, comment, rcsinfo, babel, wrapfig, 
longtable, geometry, url, natbib, hypernat, fnpara, pdfcprot, and 
textcomp packages as well as various packages for typefaces (the 
Lucida, Latin Modern and Utopia/Fourier sets especially -- not all at 
once though ;-) are very useful as well.
