[OS X TeX] Request from newbie

Thanks for the advice.  The "TeX + Ghostscript" suggestion did the 
trick.  I had also been led to believe that the eps files in the 
"system" I was working in would auto-scale.  They do not, but a 
colleague showed me how to indicate what the scale factor should be.

For the present I will be working in RevTeX 4 (Am Phys Soc) and the 
journal editor wants things uniform, so I am trying to stick within the 
confines of that situation.
