[OS X TeX] mfpic with pdflatex

When I try to process a file containing a mfpic graph using pdflatex, I 
get the following error message:

[MP to PDF TP4Dgrafer.1] (./TP4Dgrafer.1
! Undefined control sequence.

The same error is produced if I invoke mptopdf manually.

I am using the metapost option.

Does anyone have a piece of advice?
