[Mac OS X TeX] GUI for teTeX settings, etc.; ideas from NeXT?

One could configure various formats as entries in the Service menu (so
one could have, TeX, LaTeX 2e, LaTeX 2.09, AMSTeX, etc.), and the
Preferences included places where one could enter paths &c.

Isn't it merely necessary to place the style files in the appropriate
place in the filesystem and re-fresh the filename database? Having a
hard time envisioning this....

A project I'd like to see us swipe ideas from would be LyX....
www.lyx.org for those who've not looked at it.
