The BBEdit and BBEdit Lite plug-ins I released last week have been revised and expanded. The set now contains 17 plug-ins and associated shell scripts. These plug-ins require at least OS 10.1 and have been tested with BBEdit 6.5 and BBEdit Lite 6.1.2. You must have installed teTeX so that it can be run from the Terminal application. The plug-ins allow you to run tex, latex, pdftex, pdflatex, dvips, dvipdfm, ps2pdf, bibtex, and makeindex from BBEdit. The plug-ins are arranged in a sub menu of BBEdit's Tools Menu and you can bind keys to the plug-ins. The scripts called by the plug-ins can be modified by the user to do further processing.

The plug-ins work as follows. Open a tex document in BBEdit. After editing the file go to BBEdit's Tools Menu and select (pdf)latex if your document uses the latex format or (pdf)tex if your document uses the plain format. The plug-in opens a Terminal window, changes directory to the directory containing your tex source file and issues the command to run either (pdf)latex or (pdf)tex on your source file. When processing is finished and you have checked the Terminal output for possible errors, hit command-w to close the Terminal window and return to BBEdit. If an error was reported and you typed an 'e' at the ? prompt, BBEdit will open the source file containing the error. Selecting the "Goto TeX Error" plug-in will highlight the line reported as containing the error.

It takes several seconds for the plug-ins to launch the Terminal, so once this program is running close windows rather than quit the program during a typesetting session. If Terminal is running the plug-ins work quite quickly.

The plug-ins can be downloaded from http://www.kiffe.com/tex/programs/bbedit_plugins_for_teTeX.sit.bin (230 K). Installation instructions are included.
