[Mac OS X TeX] dvi files

You cannot do that directly (it is a feature which should be added).
But the altpdftex script is able to deal with dvi files, so in Terminal 
type

	altpdftex myfile.dvi

and the file will be converted to a pdf file which TeXShop and other
programs can open.
