
<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=us-ascii"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "><div><div>Hi Sarina,</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite">Today I downloaded the Lucida Bright Open Type fonts to use in Adobe Illustrator CS 5.1 or 6. on my iMac OSX 10.8.4. I installed the files in the System/Library/Fonts folder both using the Font Book.app and per the alternative instructions that came with the download. I also tried installing in my user library/fonts directory. I removed any duplicates in the process of trying methods of downloading.<br></blockquote><div><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote></div><blockquote type="cite">In either version of AI (5.1 or 6) the font finders showed all the new Lucida font families, except the ones I need, the LucidaBrightMathOT and LucidaBrightMathOT-Demi (the publisher will only accept figures made with the OT versions). I see that these fonts were last modified on Sep 23, while the others go back to Jan 14. This suggests to me that something happened in the recent revision that is causing those fonts to be unavailable to Adobe Illustrator. </blockquote><div><br></div>Did you look all the way through the Font menus in Illustrator? For some reason Lucida Bright Math OT is separated from the other Lucida OT fonts and appears towards the end of the menu, together with Cyrillic fonts. The following shows the Fonts pull-down menu in the toolbar and also the Fonts submenu of the Text menu in the menu bar, in Illustrator CS 6 on OS X 10.8.5:</div><div><br></div><div><img height="578" width="276" apple-width="yes" apple-height="yes" id="2a9ddbb0-5813-4942-81b8-670032774eac" src="cid:3D8FC965-895A-4A23-B320-D2FBF1579948"><img height="641" width="632" apple-width="yes" apple-height="yes" id="2c518b71-39ec-413f-93ec-dca53558c21a" src="cid:C1D7925B-3C5E-4102-85CD-9D8EB73F50F2"></div><div><br></div><div>I imagine that's because of the unusual Unicode slots provided by the font, making Illustrator interpret it as Cyrillic. At least on the Mac, Illustrator has always had problems with modern, Unicode-based, encodings.<br><br></div><div>That said:</div><div><br></div><div>- Did you really install to /System/Library/Fonts, not /Library/Fonts? /System is OS X reserved territory, stuff put there may break the system permanently, prevent it to boot, etc. /Library is the place for system-wide additions, ~/Library for user-specific additions.</div><div><br></div><div>- Do you really want to use Lucida Bright Math OT, not just Lucida Bright OT? In Illustrator, with the keyboard Lucida Bright Math OT will give exactly the same glyphs as Lucida Bright OT. To access the math glyphs, you'll have to use the Character Viewer panel (in the Input menu in the menu bar), like this</div><div><br></div><div><img height="643" width="988" apple-width="yes" apple-height="yes" id="c431fcdf-2551-4f88-82c6-fbc3f8fa26b2" src="cid:58604FD4-D995-468E-9473-27886B824285"></div><div><br></div><div>Hope this helps,</div><br><div>Bruno Voisin</div><div><br></div><div>PS I did try too with version 1.6 of the font (the above was with 1.7), but that does not change anything, the font is there at the same place in the Illustrator font menu.</div></body></html>
