[lucida] Lucida Bright installation trouble on Debian

I checked a little further and can see that kpsewhich finds the fonts. If I 
try to compile a file, here is what pdflatex tells me:

pdfTeX warning: pdflatex (file hlcrima): Font hlcrima at 570 not found
kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 0+570/600 --dpi 570 
hlhr8r
mktexpk: don't know how to create bitmap font for hlhr8r.

does this ring any bells with anyone? Thanks, Michael
