Hello all, this is a first feedback from me regarding this topic. I have tried texlive2017 with Linux and Mac. Using regular libraries (.so and .dylib) and ffi work fine. Next thing I'll try to do the same on Windows and then I'll put it on the wiki. Patrick (who thinks this is really great)
