[luatex] Recent changes---two examples and before/after logs

Dear all,

Attached are two examples for which compilation has changed behavior
recently. mwe1.tex before the update, compiles without error. After the
update it fails to compile.

For mwe2.tex, it compiles without error both before and after but note
the changes in output.

Are these changes intended?
