[luatex] a question about the names \Umathcharnumdef etc

Yes, that will be easier. But the danger is naturally that it is
getting more difficult to see that something is a primitive. Module
prefixes like in expl3 have their use ...

Are all these \Umath etc primitives using the same syntax in both
engines?
