Imho it is a bit of a problem if the pretest affects CTAN in this
way. It is naturally ok that packages are updated for a new TeXLive
but if problems due to large changes are expected they perhaps
should better be put in some "pretest branch". Not every user expect
packages on CTAN to suddenly switch in a sort of beta modus.

Beside this Christian would certainly have been willing to keep back
some updates if someone would have notified him (he did it for a
babel update after I told him that it break polyglossia).

But it could be a bit late now: the first messages are arriving in
some forums about problems.

I hadn't much time last week and so couldn't get involved but I
think I will be able to look into the problem tomorrow afternoon.
For this it would be really useful if all this various updates were
in some tds-tree somewhere for download. I can attach such trees
easily to my system and so wouldn't have to do a lot of preparation
to keep my main system safe.
