The problem may occur by incorrect configuration of Netpbm. You
may fix the problem by each of the followings:
a) to reinstall Netpbm with correct configuration

"/usr/X11R7/lib/X11/rgb.txt" in your pm_config.h before the
compilation).

does not exist, you should look in /usr/lib/xorg.
Ugrade to xorg7 changed a lot of things in etch, I had to upgrade
my original sarge kernel to 2.6.17
